Freybourne is a coastal city in south-eastern Barban, at the mouth of the Greybeck where it opens into The Shallows.

Freybourne is a free city and is known as a playground for the wealthy. It has a beautiful harbour with multiple berthing spots for luxury sloops and even retrofitted galleons. Several splendid ships are wrecked along the coastal region between the harbour and The Shallows.

Freybourne appears like no other city in the realm. The almost total lack of towers is astounding. There is only one tower, that of the Temple of Sahir. All the buildings are of stone or marble, and the city layout is most unusual.

While it isn’t true that all the streets of Freybourne are paved with gold, the thoroughfares in the most elite regions are paved in platinum.

A wide range of entertainments are on offer in Freybourne, provided one has the coin. There are said to be more hotels, inns and taverns in Freybourne than anywhere else in the world. Royalty and noble lineage are of little concern in the city: only the weight of one’s chest of gold coins is reckoned.

There are no poor people in the city: the recently-rich are summarily deported. There is, however, a gold statue of a beggar in the central market plaza.

Elder Larance the Elder heads the city council of Freybourne, a serious if dull man with a head for figures. Aebria Whitewater is his Junior Councillor.

There is no military presence in Freybourne and no obvious police force.

Freybourne is the smallest settlement in Kalderesh to have a full Temple. Dedicated to Sahir, the single-tower Luminous Helix is by far the tallest tower in the city. The Arcane Gianna Bend and the Enchanter Baella Byrdman are the senior mages in attendance.

In addition to several smaller places of worship, there is a Fane to Razim, overseen by the powerful Milae Barnard. The Razimites are responsible for law and order in the city.

The traditional economic activities, such as trade and barter, are apparently absent. Despite this, many guilds are represented. A fabulous winged building houses the Small Hall of the Guild of Builders. The Master Warden is Maelya Greene. The most influential guild in Freybourne, however, is the relatively small Guild of Jewelers, administered by the Saar Grand Enchanter Emilyan Dyer.

Unique eyebrow piercings identify the super-wealthy residents of the city.

Fantastically rich persons who spend most of their time in Freybourne include the Aranite Arch Priest Maeson Crabber, Archmage Caerlos Oaks, Lord Victorya Sawyer, the Grand Wizards Lucaes Archer and Hudsyn Hurd, and the swashbuckler Lugom the Black.
