The ancient Monastery of Oohm, built before even the Royal Road was constructed, has been looking out over the Gulf of Kalder for more than four centuries.

The Prior is Holiness Xavyer Deelaker, who spends most of his time studying the monstrous species. He is a world expert on the subject and is regularly consulted by scholars. Priory administration is the responsibility of the Assistant Prior, Holiness Oewyn Planter. Father Planter studies mathematics and ship design, and is also an avid beekeeper and wine maker.

The monastery sports an eclectic collection of building styles, as it was added to and rebuilt over the centuries. Part of the complex is built into a sea-cliff and extends below water level. It is unknown why this curious choice was made, or even by whom. Outbuildings that make up this sprawling complex include large stables, leather workshops, a textile manufactory, gardens, and an extensive herbarium. There is also accommodation for several hundred monks, and a rather austere worshipry hall. Senior monks are identified by their unique grey footwear and, in men, their long beards.
