The serene and ancient Priory of Salaah lies at the top of a large, gently-sloping hilly region that extends for kilometres along the coast. Unlike other structures in Kalderesh, the monastery has no towers, nor is it angular in appearance: instead, it is composed of many overlapping and interleaving spheres and ovoids.

The holy residents of the monastery have erected hundreds of huge blue flags down the hill from the monastery. Written on each flag are special prayers to Salaah which the ocean winds keep in constant motion. These flags can be seen from many kilometres away, and is used as a visual anchor by sailors.

A special group of black-cloaked monks are sometimes seen conducting an ocean ceremony to honour the sea and its inhabitants.

Monks of the priory are regularly petitioned by fishermen to bless the oceans and their boats, to ward against the dangers of capsizing or being lost in a storm. Many years ago a wealthy merchant built a series of anchorages off the coast, allowing boats to dock for the blessing ritual.

The monastery has a well-equipped scriptorium, and regularly trains clerics, scholars and artisans in the arts of copying and manuscript illumination.
