TB9 Chapter 1
4691 January 1st: Excited about graduating mage school Brandyn wanted to cast find familiar as soon as possible. However before he could do that he would need 1000gp so he decided to visit his close friend Jordus at the Bard's College. Jordus had overheard about a moneylender at the docks and Brandyn made his way there in a rush. He met with a man called Master Mason and they reached an agreement. Bardolph took the 1000gp to the mages guild where he sold one of his spell slots to afford an Improved Find Familiar kit. After casting the spell he acquired a weasel familiar sharpening his sense of smell and hearing. The weasel was named Bernard. Brandyn realised with only 50g he could pay back the money lender already and got the money from his father. Returning to the building he witnessed Master Mason brutally whipping someone. Master Mason refused to accept the money immediately and Brandyn fled to his friend Bardolph, a paladin of Razim, to tell him about the whipped man. Brandyn and Bardolph made their way back to the business but the doorman was obtuse in not letting them in. After a while Master Mason approaches the door in a disguise and lies about the business claiming it was his home. After a while arguing at the door whether or not there was a hurt man down the corridor Mason let them in but delayed them enough to cover up the cell and disguise the hurt man. Bardolph cured the man anyways. While talking Brandyn discovers the business is called the Dealachres and is owned by one Alisson Stoneman. A woman appeared at some point and while walking out whispered to Mason the words "did they drink it". At this Brandyn attempted to hold the door open with his foot to carry on questioning Mason but before he could Mason slammed the door on his foot. Bidding Bardolph goodbye Brandyn crosses the road to find out anything he could about the Dealachres. He finds out that they have late night deliveries and often have late night parties full of screaming and shouting. Brandyn heads home to discuss the legality of moneylending with his father and his father agrees to ask a lawyer friend about it the following day.
Jan 2: Brandyn studies at the mages college and in the evening learns from his father that any moneylending outside of the pseudo-banks is illegal and therefore he had no need to pay Mason back.
Jan 3-4: Brandyn studies at the Mage's Guild.
Jan 5: This day started the same as any other, with Brandyn studying at the Mage's Guild until a man showed up, claiming to be from the court asking about the incident. Believing Bardolph had mentioned something to the Guards Brandyn thought nothing of it and told the man all he knew and his name and residence. As the man bid farewell Brandyn smelt something off and realised this man was Master Mason in disguise again! He panicked as Brandyn chased him into the streets. He chased Mason down a few blocks until he finally caught him outside a butcher. Demanding for guards to be called Brandyn kept close watch on Mason as he lay on the ground. Finally the guards arrived but before Brandyn could explain the situation Mason used magic to trick the guards into believing Brandyn had stabbed a huge hole in his arm. The guards shackled Brandyn and started marching towards the barracks. Before they could get there Mason faked a heart attack and while the corporal went on ahead to call for a medic, slipped on a ring that allowed him to blink. Luckily he couldn't blink far and immediately Brandyn was on the chase catching up to him twice before he blinked away. Finally tackling Mason to the ground Brandyn managed to rip the ring off and chuck it away before quickly being knocked out by the disgruntled Mason. He was woken up a short time later by the guards before being taken into the barracks to give a statement. Brandyn also managed to convince the guards to search the building he met Mason in and post a guard in front of his family home.
Jan 6: Brandyn spent more time at the barracks trying to glean any information about the case possible. The guards had only gone the following morning and the building had been cleared out completely during the night. Brandyn, not disheartened, went to the mages guild to acquire a memory crystal. Using it he captured the image of Mason licking blood off his finger after whipping the man in the cell. He then showed the image to the detective in charge of the case before heading home to warn his parents. After showing his parents his father pointed out that the very same man had been inside of the shop that very afternoon. Panicking, Brandyn began to cast detect magic on every inch of his house, finding a Glyph on the roof and a magical mug. Thinking quickly Brandyn ran to the Mage's Guild to convince another mage to come dispel the glyph. Brandyn also asks the mage to identify the mug but he refuses, so they head back to the Mage's Guild to ask someone else to. But it is late and the Mage's Guild tells him to come back the following morning.
Jan 7: Brandyn spends the morning detecting magic around the house again before rushing to the Mage's Guild to get the item identified. After being informed that there was a waiting list Brandyn manages to convince them to do it immediately if they get to keep the mug afterwards. He then waits for 2 hours before being admitted to the room, expecting to see one mage identifying the mug he instead sees an entire council of mages sitting around a force field keeping the mug inside.
