World map

The World – “Tem” in Kalderani – is home to four large continents (Cromrya, Dalarnum, Brundonica, and Florevand) and two extensive archipelagos (Arcosus and Estunea).

Cromrya is the largest continent, with a surface area three times that of Africa. Arcosus, on the other hand, has a total surface area less than three-quarters that of Africa.

Interview

Antinari Jas the Younger, Senior Cartographer, Royal Guilde of Map Makers & Surveyors, Camfor

"Ah, there you are, I was told you’d be in some time this morning. Please, come in, and have a seat. Oh, just leave your boots over there. Good, let me show you around, I understand this is your first visit? Then let me say: Welcome to the Royal Guilde Hall! We were established by King Federic in 4356, you know, and have guild halls in each ducal city.

"Right, this is our most recent map of the kingdom! If you come a bit closer, you’ll see that every single path and road has been mapped out and measured. The boundaries of the duchies, crown lands, and holy lands, have also been carefully charted, surprisingly for the first time, accurately!

"If you stand back a bit, you can see that the central regions are highlands and impressive mountains, and I’m sure you’ll understand why all sorts of beasts and monsters roam there and call these regions home. Interestingly, these mountains are completely tame – that’s the home of the Aranites, see?

"Then, notice also the extremely dense forests here, here, and in these parts. I can tell you, these were extremely difficult to map – they’re druidic forests, you know. The swamps here, down there, and over here, were like a walk in the park, in comparison! So if you happen to know of any fools who are heading into the mountains, do make sure they have a mapping kit with them!

"A feature our Guild is particularly proud of is that we’ve mapped the oceans and seas, too, as you can see. I’m not at liberty to tell you exactly how we managed that, but I can say we had some “indigenous help”, if you follow my meaning. In fact, if you come this way, I’ll show you the main project we are working on.

"This is the continent of Brundonica; there are three or four other continents on Tem, but we’re starting closest to home, you know. As you can see, Kalderesh is one of the Six Islands that lies just to the west of Brundonica. This region here, at the northern tip of the continent, is Malanthea, an ancient united kingdom, that we Kalderani split off from more than 450 years ago. The Malantheans are expert cartographers, you know, mostly because they are a seafaring nation and relied on accurate surveying back in the day. Here’s the Gallentene Empire, here’s Nubanon, this is the Rimgart, and here in the middle is Lake Janee, and as our map beautifully shows, you can see it’s much bigger than our entire kingdom! It’s around these shores that we humans took our first steps, in the before-times. So roughly speaking, the Janee are our ancestors, and the Malanthean & Gallentene people are one branch, and the Nubians another.

"Anyway, I actually wanted to show you – oh, you have to leave for another appointment? Well, ok then, see you later!"
