Violetash Cliff is a coastal settlement on Flormin Bay, at the mouth of the mighty Baurin River and on the outer fringes of the Lesser Kascht. Summeroak and Fogcastle lie up-river.

In the central market of the little fishing village is a memorial to Branus Cook, a ranger who died defending the village, soon after it had been settled, against a monstrous sea beast.

The town elder, Romanus Wool, is a gifted bard and storyteller. He owns a number of hostels in the village, as well as in Marbleash, Whiteash, and Summeroak.

Fishing, seafood gathering, and livestock farming are the most labour-intensive activities in the village. The small harbour can handle barges and large rowing boats; the typical water level is very low.

From the mouth of the Baurin River eastward along the coast, the terrain features tall broken cliffs. Scholars have determined that the longstones that make up Lugan’s Krainer (see p 397), some 40 km away, were taken from this section of coast, hundreds of years ago. Today, a single longstone still stands on the rocky coast (see below).

Sections of these exposed rocks have a purplish colour, more accented in summer, caused by mist-fed lichens and the unique mineral content of the rock. These purple crystals are highly sought-after and are collected by the Saar from Renhall House.

Renhall House is a fortified chapel, dedicated to Sahir, that stands on an impressive outcrop at the mouth of a small bay, about 7 km from Violetash Cliff. The resident magic users, Grand Archmage Mygwell Buttonworth and Conjurer Oewyn Laine, specialize in marine magic. The resident Saar are noted for their bright yellow headscarves.
