Nomden is the northernmost settlement in the Black Saw Mountains.
It is the oldest mining settlement in the region, and once had a much larger civic centre. It was the first deep-mine in Kalderesh, and an early accident caused much of the original town to collapse into the depths. Subsequently, the mining capital was relocated and founded as Keserel.
Today, Nomden is a dark grimy place on the edge of a smouldering subsurface volcanic vent. The Wizard Astinus Pickleman oversees the mining activity, which consists mainly of extracting high-quality sulphur, and small quantities of rare heavy metals, including adamantine. The main haulier, Ryanna Bloom, is the current town elder. The extracted materials are transported to Shadowcastle for processing.
It is believed that a narcotic fungus, growing deep within the volcanic vent and feeding on molten sulphur, is harvested and used here and clandestinely exported.
