Ironedge lies on Salee land, in the gentle Iserium Hills, on the road between Feybank and Pai. It is primarily an agricultural settlement, but a good proportion of its activities are geared for travel and accommodation.
Because of the village’s location on a well-travelled route between the magnificent Pai and the royal city of Dromfor (to the south) and Savimasko (to the north), it is home to many inns, stables, and travel hostels. The most famous hostelier is Gaevyn Nutt, who runs the splendid Swimming Warrior, a large full-featured inn. All employees wear turquoise tunics and cloaks, and are trained to exacting standards.
The village elder is Aemilya Dycen, who manages the settlement proper. Her first councillor, Zoea Brewster, is in charge of the agricultural activities.
The village is surrounded by extensive fields of hops, flax, brinewheat, and grimble. Much of this produce is exported to Pai and Savimasko.
In the wilds, particularly to the south and south-west, roam herds of dagby and shillmar. Some animal husbandry experts are attempting to cross-breed shillmar with cows to create a more docile herd animal.
Two Royal visits have sculpted the life and history of Ironedge. In 4638 HRH King Lambard and Queen Allisann visited Ironedge, on their way to Dromfor. Since that year, the village holds a special festival on King Lambard’s birthday, as well as another festival on the birth day of the current monarch. Then in the spring of 4689, the village was visited unexpectedly by HRHs King Maynard and Queen Adelicia. The Royal Couple arrived without fanfare, and without an entourage, and explored the village before booking into an inn for the night. It was only during dinner that the couple was recognized. Consternation was followed by celebration, which lasted until sunrise.
