Landdell lies in the Sunflow Hills at the foot of the Endless Mountains. It is quite isolated, being over two days away from the Royal Road.
With the Black Hills and Krethes Mountains nearby, no wonder the villagers are of a hardy stock. Monstrous raids happen from time to time, and the settlement has an active militia. Landdell and its residents are somewhat more autonomous in nature than other settlements.
The town councillor is Santegus Archmaker, a craftsman of repute. Alderman Eryc Capman is in charge of the active town militia of some 30 stalwarts, who patrol the area.
The rich soils of the gentle valley in which the village lies is particularly suited to the growth of willow rice, and therefore honey and bees wax production is also common. It is said that a particularly intoxicating beverage is made from the rice honey. While not strictly illegal, excessive consumption of this drink is viewed negatively, and as such there is probably a good deal of smuggling going on.
Four years ago, a plague of lice crickets almost wiped out the hives; the supply of honey and wax is slowly returning to normal levels.
In 4672 the Goose River flooded its banks. Several labourers drowned and the western fields were destroyed.
A notable resident is Talya Woodyn, an adventurer who is said to have a secret hide-out in the town. Her unassuming house on the edge of Landdell has a hidden underground level in which she stores some of her incredible wealth. She is rarely home, and never mixes with the locals.
