The Monastery of Saar, founded four centuries ago, lies in the foothills of the Barban Highlands, overlooking the River Eel near where it flows into the Weeping.
The monastery is a square tower, 480 feet tall, which is partially levitating. It stands on an eight-pointed foundation building, without any apparent entrances.
The Prior is Holiness Xavius Hemmings, an arch-cleric from Londesh and a specialist bladesmith. The high priest Goshwa Basket is the assistant prior.
Monks who are skilled arcanists are distinguished from their clerical colleagues by wearing a yellow scarf.
On the rare times when a comet is visible in the night sky, the monastery is brightly lit and a brilliant beam of light lances up into the sky to the comet. The purpose of this is unknown.
Some 300 people are believed to inhabit the monastery.
