Northpond is a small fishing village in northern Daern, at the mouth of the Handyr River.

The leader of the settlement is Elyjah Fielder. He is a retired adventurer who now runs a thriving inn, Greenfields. Each New Year, Fielder sponsors a lavish celebration attended by the villagers and surrounding farmers.

It is a craft centre, producing a wide range of quality clay and stone goods. Victorya Bayer is a master potter and oversees the training of craftsmen and the production of both ordinary and ornate vessels.

Both grain and hops are cultivated along the Handyr. The road from Northpond to the Royal Road cuts through extensive fields of nirkil beans. Most of the crop is dried and exported, but a fraction is fermented to make nirkil wine.

The fresh beans contain a harmless substance which dyes skin black; workers customarily wear black robes, too. A liquid extract, called nirkil black (or sometimes vantir black) can be used to dye skin and hair.

East of the village stands Ingram Manor, where Donaldus Ingraham conducts his business. He is frequently consulted for his opinion on matters on a range of topics, from alchemy to religion and governance. Several other scholars live and work in the manor. One of these is Melania Greentree, a sage and scribe known for producing excellent works on basic and advanced mathematics.
