Duchy of Daern
The Duchy of Daern “The Just” occupies northern Kalderesh, with Toreen and Barban on its southern border.
The Barobur Range and surrounding highlands in the south take up about a third of the barony. These areas are infested with all manners of monstrous beings. Three extensive and fertile valleys (Broad, Prycastle, and Black Valley) occupy much of the western duchy, ranged by cattle and horses. Daern is famous for the many specialized breeds of horses that are reared in the valleys. The north and central region is given over to the Great Forest of Harl.
Much of Daern is unpopulated; only the south-western part is civilized. Most of the settlements lie in the three valleys and along the western coast. The long section of Royal Road from Esterkeep in Barban to Blackwinter in Daern passes for 420 km through unpopulated wild-lands.
The Duchy is ruled from Daernbeck by Lord Robertus Vasey, who has taken the title of Duke of Harl.
The Crown owns a large tract of land in western Daern, the Royal District of Parnogrust. The capital is in Forbeck, ruled by Claren Yric, Marquis of Forbeck.
To the north is a large region, the Second Province of D'Aad, administered by Alfan Raynerus of the High Temple of D’Aad in Blackwinter.
In the far east, along the border with Barban, is the desolate Province of Oohm. No settlements are within the province; the Royal Road passes through its south-western extremes. It is administered by Lord Jordus Barnes in distant Daernbeck.
There is one free city in Daern: Blacksilver, established in 4431.
