Forbeck lies on the Whispering Plains, between the Broad and Prycastle Valleys, at the source of the River of Souls.

It is a prosperous city and is known as a haven for the arts and sciences. The Hero’s Festival is held twice a year. The town elects a hero, from anywhere across Kalderesh, who is then celebrated in various ways, and who in turn presents public spectacles or performances, depending on their particular skills. Sometimes, these celebrities make Forbeck their new home. Two examples include the Very Lady Luna Darry, the famous playwright whose productions are regularly performed by the Benthantium Project, and Theo Vines, the foremost sculptor in Kalderesh.

The Silver Spring Festival is a combined festival held between Daernbeck and Forbeck. The cities take turns to build extravagant river barges, which then move along the River of Souls, celebrating at they go.

Forbeck is run by the Lord Mayor Aeli Wool, assisted by Grand Wizards Breia Rhodes, Chyrles Tannerman, and Jasmine Gardiner.

The Marquis of Forbeck, Claren Yric, is the city lord, and his home is Castle Redholm. He is a gifted poet and author, and is patron of the Royal Guilde of Artists. The Marquis is the author of the fascinating “Unusual Practices in Dalarnum”, “Esoteric Customs of the Gallenteans”, and “Exotic Stories from Florevand” (which are available from Niuewe Coerier Incorporation, 27 Market Street, Donnalaich and are also sold as a discounted bundle).

The marquis is the Administrator of the Royal District of Parnogrust, and has delegated his city duties to his son, Lord Lionel Yric, who works hard to ensure the city remains prosperous. Lord Lionel is an exceptional instrument maker, and is the patron of the Guild of Music & Performers. The Guild is well known for producing excellent acrobats, gymnasts and dancers.

The Marquis’ castle is also home to Lord Randel Alret, eldest son of the Marquis of Londesh. Lord Randel is a famous hunter and falconer.

Castle Redholm is the home of the Marquis of Forbeck. Note the multiple aerial towers.

Flax and several grains grow well on the Whispering Plains, and these are the cornerstone of the city’s agronomical output. Many acres of land are given over to horse barley, which is widely exported.

Near the underground source of the River of Souls are a series of semi-submerged caves in which grow a nutritious type of mushroom. It has been gathered for centuries, dried, and eaten as a sustaining meal.

A small military force of 100 infantry and 50 cavalry is headquartered in the city, led by Field Cornet Carlus Carpenter. Two sky helms are also stationed here.

A Grand High Temple to Razim is the city’s most formidable building. It is administered by His Holiness Lincon Dice, who has a reputation as a fearless and merciless warrior and champion of Razim. The Cavalier Sword Master Maximo Lane is the Defender of the temple.

The Aadite Arch Priest Maelania Ackes oversees the Temple of D’Aad.

Two guilds have their Great Halls in the city: the Guild of Butchers (Order Master Ewan Saffron) and the Guild of Forgers & Smiths (Order Master Bryn Schipps). Grand Wizard Helius Harper is the resident guild scholar at the latter. The Guild of Music & Performers has its Small Hall in the city; its Warden is Johan Ploughman. The Enchanter Adanno Townes oversees the well-appointed Wizard’s Guild, which has an entire tower dedicated to keeping its books, scrolls and parchments. Famous mages who study here include Danyel Small, Maetho Walls, and Brandyn Hemson. It is said that the Magus Ruby Cabbage is seen in the stacks from time to time. The worship of Sahir is a conspicuous part of the clerical terroir of Forbeck. Members of the guild wear recognizable blue-purple neckties.

Other influential Guilds are the Royal Guilde of Artists, the Royal Guilde of Mariners, and the Guild of Wood Workers. The Guild of Clerks & Scribes, Guild of Scholastics, and Guild of Financial Transactions share a guild hall, as do the Guild of Dyers & Weavers and Guild of Clothing & Accessories.

The Arcane Maximo Towny, well-known for his exploits and adventures, lives in Forbeck, and his monthly balls are the highlight of the city’s social calendar.

Other notable citizens include Archmage Joceline Croppe and the mercenary duo Aeliya Wahls and Damyan Redflats.
