Strongfield is a coastal village in the Duchy of Krethes, situated on the Gulf of Kalder at the mouth of the Fishbourn. Founded in 4573 AC, it has a population of roughly 2,650 residents.

Although modest in size, Strongfield occupies a strategically important position at a three-way intersection of the Royal Road. Its importance has increased in recent years as heavy haulers and merchant vessels have begun using its harbour to avoid congestion at Coth-Rom.

Geography

Strongfield lies on the coast of the Gulf of Kalder, where road, river, and sea traffic meet. Cape Danger lies to the north. The village is shaped by its harbour, its road traffic, and the presence of Castle Strongfield, around which much of the settlement has grown.

The surrounding countryside supports subsistence farming, herding, fishing, and quarrying. Cattle, pigs, and goats are commonly kept by local families.

Castle Strongfield

Strongfield is clustered around Castle Strongfield, the royal home of HRH Prince Ailwin Philbert-Kalder and HRH Princess Bryanna. The castle is one of the most prominent features of the village and remains central to its identity, economy, and security.

The castle complex is heavily fortified and includes a military wing garrisoned by cavaliers and rangers. These forces patrol the surrounding region and are locally remembered for riding to the aid of Millhaven during the bandit siege of 4677 AC.

The castle grounds also contain the Red Needle, a prominent mage's tower. The tower is associated with Grand Wizard Aelisabeth Bowman.

Harbour and economy

Strongfield's harbour has become increasingly busy as merchants and heavy haulers seek alternatives to the crowded harbour at Coth-Rom. This maritime traffic, combined with the Royal Road intersection, gives the village an importance greater than its size might suggest.

The local economy remains partly rural, with farming, herding, fishing, and quarrying all contributing to village life. Travellers and sailors also support a lively street-food trade. Strongfield vendors are particularly proud of their spiced meat skewers, which they often claim are the finest in Krethes.

Learning and curiosities

Despite its practical, road-and-harbour character, Strongfield is also known as a quiet centre of study.

Prince Ailwin is an acknowledged expert in water divination and regularly hosts visiting sages and scholars as long-term guests at Castle Strongfield.

Princess Bryanna is a scholar of flowering plants and marine animals. She maintains an exotic underwater zoo in the bay just outside the village harbour.

Religion

Strongfield has a modest religious establishment serving the village and the surrounding countryside. Its known religious sites include one chapel, three chantries, five shrines, and three all-gods sites.

History

Strongfield was founded in 4573 AC. Its position at the mouth of the Fishbourn and on the Royal Road gave it early local importance, though its recent growth in maritime traffic has made it more visible to merchants, travellers, and officials.

In 4677 AC, forces from Castle Strongfield famously rode to the rescue of Millhaven during a bandit siege, an event still remembered in the region.
