Cordell lies on the coast west of Torbeck, at the mouth of the Morkin River. It is a transport hub for the region, with the Royal Road, secondary roads, and trails all converging here. Its small harbour can handle a few coasters or smaller vessels, and there is a regularly-travelled coast-hugging ocean route to Torbeck. Cordell is the major export point for the “basket loop” settlements.
The most prominent citizen in this little settlement is Lady Kimbera Frey, a dour and serious person known for her no-nonsense and efficient attitude. She is the Provincial Administrator of the Second Province of Razim, which extends to the south and west, crossing over into northern Kirvan. Lady Frey and her family live in a fortified complex at the village’s eastern entrance. A fortified chapel to Razim is attached to the complex, and guards the entrance.
Jonaeth Worms, a creative potter and marbler, is the leader of the town. He is in charge of the extensive, outlying agricultural activities (see below). His first councillor, Zeckus Tarr, is in charge of the many travel and transport-related activities that dominate the settlement. In addition to inns, stables, wainwrights and the like, there are spacious and secure warehouses that are used to store trade goods for later collection and distribution.
The western badlands of the Second Province of Razim, some 120 km to the south-west at the foot of the Krethes Mountains, is used by the Razimites for military training. Cordell is one of a number of villages that provides food for the recruits and soldiers. A belt of agricultural lands extends from Cordell, along the Royal Road towards Lightfield, and towards Kleerby and Greenbarrow.
The tall tower of the wizard Chloe Springs stands on the village market. It is often mistaken for a statue, as the building silhouette seen from the west appears that of a figure with arms raised to the sky. The tower is used by travellers as a way-point on their journey. Grand Wizard Springs is an art collector of repute, and travellers are known to stop by with exquisite items for sale.
