Outside Draccrest stands the Golden Therarian, the tower and scholastic complex of Santaegus Cook. It is named for the local yellow flowers, visible in the foreground.
From time to time, skrags and other beasts threaten Draccrest. The village stands on a low hill and has a defensive perimeter wall and a sturdy gate.

Draccrest is a small settlement in the lower regions of the Hills of Burin, between the Lesser Kascht Forest and Maiden Wood.

The wider region is subject to marauding skrags, so Draccrest is unusually well fortified. Jaedyn Boiles is the mayor and a skilled tanner, in charge of one of the little settlement’s major activities: hunting and trapping.

Flocks of sheep, of a hardy breed, are grazed in the hills. A number of small stone quarries are exploited for construction material. A local alchemist, Haddeus Buttonworth, has developed a formula for converting whale oil into everburning fluid and conducts a brisk business that provides this luxury. The village provides bulk foodstuffs to the nearby Monastery of Oohm.

A short distance outside the village, on a rocky outcrop, is the Golden Therarian, the tower and complex of the Grand Enchanter Santaegus Cook. The mage is known for his deep knowledge of arcane lore and ability as an armourer. An exceptionally large chapel to Sahir is part of the Golden Therarian. Master Santaegus is also known for his generous financial aid to mages who want to further their clerical studies.

Santaegus also sponsors a yearly dance festival in the settlement, which attracts performers from far and wide.

The tower of the Golden Therarian is sometimes mistaken for the Monastery of Oohm, which is some 10 km away to the east.
