Basic education is provided by public schools for the youth (up to the age of 13), during which basic reading, writing, and arithmetic, is taught. In the later years, history, theology, art, and basic home skills are covered. Schools are funded and operated by the governing council of a town or city, one of the duties of local government. In larger centres, elite private schools cater for the children of the wealthy. In such centres, there will usually also be finishing schools, where upper-class youth are taught the finer social skills needed to navigate the dangerous waters of high society.

Beyond basic schooling, gifted individuals may seek apprenticeship at a guild, for specialist education and training in a particular craft, skill, or discipline.

Extremely exceptional individuals may even enrol at a university for advanced education.

Sages

Sages, or scholars, are academics who gather, generate, and disseminate knowledge and wisdom, on a wide range of topics. They work at universities, which are centres of independent learning and teaching.

While there is some overlap between the training provided at a university and that carried out at certain guilds, the latter focus on the practical aspects of the craft or skill.

Universities may specialize in one of more discipline, such as astrology, astronomy, botany, cryptography, folklore & mythology, geography, geology, history, languages, mathematics, metaphysics, meteorology, music, oceanography, sociology, and zoology.

There are four universities in Kalderesh: at Camfor, Asafor, Pai, and Coth-Rom. Universities are administered and funded by the Guild of Scholastics, and may also receive financial support from wealthy patrons.
