Coatemoor is a tiny hamlet located at the crossing of the Royal Road and Little Yellow River, near Hemden Swamp. The hamlet has a single roadside inn, and a surprisingly thriving boat-building operation.
There is a large river jetty and small docks for the construction and maintenance of swamp barges. These are used to navigate Hemden Swamp, some 5 km downriver. Several locals farm with swamp chickens, a species of rodent, including the surviving members of the original Coates family.
About a century ago, John Coates and his family founded the little settlement at the river crossing and explored the swamp. They established a large swamp chicken ranch, which is still active today.
The current leader of the little community is Aodreia Miller, who is also the owner of Coates Inn. The menu consists exclusively of swamp chicken, available as steaks, stews, and salad. The inn is large and comfortable and has a chantry to Qidra attached. It also has a large stable, and wagon repairs can be effected.
A modest festival is held each six months, at high summer and high winter, to honour Qidra, the river, swamp chickens, and Hemden Swamp.
