Monarchy
Kalderesh is a hereditary constitutional monarchy, ruled by the Kalder dynasty.
Anselmet of Kalder drew up the Royal Bond, which led to the creation of the Lex Libri. These documents established the Kalders as hereditary rulers of Kalderesh.
The monarch can be male (his wife will be the queen consort) or female (her husband will be king consort). The monarch is head of state until their death (or abdication) after which the duties and powers are passed on to their children or another member of the royal family, as appointed by the monarch.
The royal family is the centre of the royal household and court, and one of its duties is to ensure that future monarchs are trained from a young age to be able to fulfil their responsibilities. The Royal Court is in the city of Camfor in the Duchy of Barban.
The current monarch
The current ruler is Maynard Kalder, King of Kalderesh, Duke of Barban, and Serif of the Temple of D’Aad. Queen Adelicia, the sister of the Duke of Harl, is his consort. She is one of the few highly-skilled mages in the kingdom and is the patron of the Wizard’s Guild in Camfor.
They have two sons: Crown Prince Philbert of Kalder (Earl of Dromfor) and Sovereign Prince Raimond of Kalder (Lord of Laneder).
Crown Prince Philbert and Princess Kathrine live in Dromfor, although the Crown Prince in usually stationed in Camfor. They have two children. Their son, Prince Ailwin Philbert-Kalder, and his wife, Princess Bryanna, live in Strongfield, Krethes. Their daughter, Princess Adelice and her husband live in the royal castle in Dromfor.
Sovereign Prince Raimond (an expert magus) and his wife Princess Graece reside in Laneder, Kirvan. They have three children, Prince Grifon, Princess Celine, and Princess Adelysa.
The King’s sister, HRH Princess Edelin Kalder, and her husband, a nobleman from Gallentea, died three years before Maynard’s crowning while visiting Gallentea. They had three children: Yohan Aalart II (Lord of Ashkeep), Arnaut Aalart (Lord Arnaut), and Caemila Aalart (Lady Caemila).

The Kalder Dynasty
The story of the Kalder family is intimately related with the story of Kalderesh, and with Malanthea before that. In fact, the family thrived in Malanthea even before that kingdom was founded.
In 3591 a young Gallentean adventurer, Nicholaes Kaldari, set out with companions to explore the unknown lands north of Gallentea. Nicholaes would eventually settle in what is today Dachmor (then called Riaclach). A decade later, the young man was a successful merchant and trader, and his descendants became significant role players when Malanthea was founded. Maxymer Kaldari II stood on the royal podium during the Independence Day celebrations in 3947. That same year, he created House Kalder, and became known as Maxymer of Kalder.
House Kalder flourished, establishing the largest shipping fleet in the nation. In 4174, Anselmet of Kalder was born. While still a little boy, the Malanthean Rebellion erupted, throwing the kingdom in turmoil. In the preceding generations, the Kalders had developed very conservative religious views, and the tension between the Kalders and the ruling house came to a boiling point. The assault on Gallentea in 4205 proved to be the final insult.
In the winter of 4212, the Kalder family fleet, led by its patriarch Lord Anselmet, set foot on the island that would become the new Kalderani nation. Anselmet ruled in the custom of the Malanthean kings but with several important exceptions, the foremost being that religion would play a very important role in the new nation.
