Duchy of Krethes
The Duchy of Krethes lies in south-western Kalderesh. Krethes is thought of as the home of artists and philosophers, mainly because of its capital Pai, the beautiful City on the Lake.
All in Krethes is not beautiful, however. The eastern half of Krethes is mountainous and overrun with monstrous creatures. The southern portion is permanently shrouded in mist and the land there belongs to the Saar.
With few exceptions, the settlements in Krethes are on or near the northern and western coast. In the west, stretching from the Krethes Mountains to the sea, is the sprawling Wetwoods. The more remote parts of this forest are monster-infested. In a broad valley in the east of the duchy is the Kreth, a forest of mainly ash and yew. Giants live there.
The ducal capital of Krethes is Pai, the City on the Lake, and is the home of the Duke of Krethes, Jeffroy Barret.
The Royal District of the West in western Krethes encompasses almost half of the Wetwoods. Most of the district is heavily forested and includes four settlements. The capital is Dromfor, home to HRH Crown Prince Philbert, who has the honorific title of Earl of Dromfor.
The church holds two provinces in Krethes. The Province of Salaah encompasses most of the Pai Wetlands, and holds seven settlements. Pai is located with the province, but the provincial capital is at Savimasko. The Marquis of Savimasko, Guarin Gwychardus, is the administrator of the province.
The Province of Sahir is in southern Krethes, dominated by the Ghudari Mountains. There are no settlements in the province, and it is administered by Damyan the Illuminated from distant Pai.
Winterhaven, established in 4353, is the only free city in Krethes.
